Scripture: Psalm 25

20 Guard my life and rescue me; do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
21 May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in you.

Observations:

This text is David praying for rescue and refuge from the Lord. His prayer is not to be put to shame. He knows that doing God’s will can protect him. His source of hope is the Lord.

Application:

Shame is something we all deal with. I think that David is reminding us that there is never shame in doing what God wants us to do. There is no shame in living with integrity and uprightness. In reality, however, none of us can live up to perfection. We have all experienced shame, because we have all done wrong. Our shame can last for eternity unless we let God take it away. Notice David doesn’t say that his hope is in his own integrity and uprightness but his hope is in the Lord. Only God can take away our shame and grant us the righteousness that never fails in Jesus Christ.

Prayer:

Lord God, I am ashamed of the evil that I have done. Help me to live with integrity and grant me the righteousness of Christ so that my shame will not last forever. In Jesus name, Amen.
